Manila Water Activates WASH for Emergencies to Aid Thousands
Manila Water has launched a vital response through its AGAPAY: WASH for Emergencies program, providing crucial assistance to over 62,000 displaced individuals across 236 evacuation centers in Metro Manila’s East Zone. This initiative addresses the urgent needs caused by Tropical Cyclone Crising and the intensified southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat.”
In close cooperation with local government units (LGUs), the program ensures the delivery of clean, safe drinking water to the hardest-hit communities. Manila Water Foundation leads this relief effort alongside the East Zone Service Areas to support evacuees during these trying times.
Water Supply Delivered Across Metro Manila Evacuation Centers
In Quezon City and San Juan City, 56 evacuation centers shelter 1,712 families or 6,090 individuals. To support them, Manila Water has delivered 300 units of 5-gallon potable water to San Juan City. Additionally, a 10-cubic-meter water tanker was stationed at San Agustin Church in Vasra, Quezon City. Deliveries of 5-gallon bottled water are scheduled for Barangays Culiat, Pasong Tamo, and Sauyo.
Makati City and Mandaluyong City are also beneficiaries where six evacuation centers accommodate 638 families or 2,966 evacuees. A water tanker was deployed at San Antonio Covered Court in Makati, supplying 25 units of 5-gallon water. Mandaluyong City received 625 units distributed across five locations.
Extensive Relief in Rizal and Nearby Areas
Among the most severely impacted areas are Marikina City, Antipolo City, and the municipalities of Rodriguez and San Mateo in Rizal. A total of 93 evacuation centers are hosting 9,032 families or 37,536 individuals. To assist, water tankers have been deployed to several schools including Malanday Elementary, Nangka Elementary, Concepcion Integrated, and Eulogio Rodriguez Jr. Elementary.
Further support includes deliveries of 16 units of 5-gallon water bottles to the Kingsville evacuation center in Barangay Mayamot. Planned distributions include 500 units in Marikina, 250 in San Mateo, and 250 more in Rodriguez.
Ongoing Coordination and Support for Other Affected Areas
Manila Water continues coordinating with Pasig City, Cainta, Taytay, Angono, and Binangonan to maintain adequate water supplies. These areas currently have 60 evacuation centers sheltering 3,841 families or 14,703 individuals. For Taguig City, which houses 20 evacuation centers with 387 families or 1,534 individuals, a delivery of 400 units of 5-gallon potable water is scheduled.
Despite persistent rains, Manila Water remains committed to providing sufficient water pressure to evacuation centers with existing water connections. The company promptly responds to LGU requests for additional water tankers and bottled water, ensuring communities remain supported.
Supporting Recovery and Public Health Efforts
As evacuees start returning home, Manila Water is dedicated to maintaining adequate water pressure to assist with cleaning and recovery activities. The company also offers sewer jetter services to help LGUs clear flooded roads, reinforcing its commitment to public health and safety during this critical time.
This comprehensive response highlights Manila Water’s dedication to helping affected communities through clean water provision and sanitation services amid natural calamities.
