Manila Water Advances Sewerage Coverage Across East Zone
Manila Water is intensifying efforts to expand sewerage coverage, reinforcing its commitment to environmental protection and public health. As of June 2025, the company provides sewer services to 311,663 connections, a figure that reflects steady growth in its sewerage coverage.
Officials reported that these connections include 52,383 under separate sewer systems, 247,756 in combined systems, 11,165 in hybrid systems, and 359 linked to private sewage treatment plants (STPs). This marks a 4.67% increase year-on-year, with 13,895 additional connections compared to last year. In June alone, 550 new sewer accounts were added due to changes in rate classifications and account statuses.
Accelerated Infrastructure Projects Drive Sewerage Coverage
To reach its sewerage coverage goals, Manila Water is fast-tracking critical infrastructure projects in key areas such as Mandaluyong, Marikina, Taguig, Quezon City, and Antipolo. Community members noted ongoing works including the completion of the Aglipay Sewage Treatment Plant and its network, the Hinulugang Taktak STP, the Marikina North–Batasan diversion initiative, and vital sections of the Taguig North and Quezon City East networks.
These projects are essential to enhancing wastewater management and ensuring that more households gain access to safe, reliable sewer services.
Expanded Sanitation Efforts Complement Sewerage Growth
Alongside expanding sewerage coverage, Manila Water has intensified its sanitation programs. In the first half of 2025, the company desludged 68,536 septic tanks, including 12,841 emptied during June alone. This includes both scheduled desludging and customer-requested services, which significantly contribute to improved sanitation standards in the serviced communities.
Protecting Communities Through Sewerage and Sanitation
“Expanding sewerage and sanitation services is not just about infrastructure—it’s about protecting communities and the environment,” Jeric Sevilla, Director of Communication Affairs, said. “We are fully committed to ensuring that more households benefit from safe and reliable wastewater services.”
Local leaders highlighted that these milestones demonstrate Manila Water’s ongoing investments in resilient infrastructure. These efforts align closely with the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System’s objectives to provide safe, inclusive, and dependable wastewater services for the East Zone population.
