Manila Water Foundation Shines at Philippine Quill Awards
Manila Water Foundation proudly received dual recognition at the 21st Philippine Quill Awards, a prestigious event held recently at the Manila Hotel. Both the Foundation and the Manila Water Sustainability Team won Merit Awards for their outstanding communication programs that promote public health and environmental care.
The four-word keyphrase Manila Water Foundation earns highlights the organization’s commitment to advancing sustainable initiatives that benefit communities across the country.
Project Drink Pilipinas! Promotes Hydration and Sustainability
Manila Water Foundation’s Project Drink Pilipinas! was honored under the Corporate Social Responsibility category for its impactful campaign encouraging hydration and environmental awareness. Community members noted that this initiative has installed over 400 refrigerated drinking fountains (RDFs) in essential public areas such as parks, hospitals, and tourist spots.
These RDFs provide easy access to clean, cold drinking water, improving health and well-being. Campus installations across Metro Manila ensure that students, teachers, and staff enjoy convenient hydration options.
With more than 752,987 individuals benefiting from clean, potable water through this project, it also advocates reducing single-use PET plastic bottle waste. Local leaders observed that the campaign encourages the use of washable cups or tumblers, challenging the throwaway culture that contributes to pollution and flooding.
“Project Drink Pilipinas! of Manila Water Foundation calls on more partners and donors to bring refrigerated drinking fountains to more schools and public spaces.
Through partnerships, let us quench the public’s thirst for clean, potable water, promote hydration for health, and care for the environment by supporting solid waste management programs of cities and communities,” Manila Water Foundation Executive Director Rej Andal said.
Katubig Currents Inspires Employee-Led Sustainability
Meanwhile, the Manila Water Sustainability Team’s program, Katubig Currents: Stories & Actions for a Sustainable Future, earned a Merit Award in the categories of Sustainability Communications and Breakthroughs and Innovations. Officials reported that this initiative empowers employees to actively participate in watershed restoration and climate resilience efforts.
The program combines the Pasibol: Puno ng Pag-asa watershed restoration campaign with an internal storytelling platform called Kwentong Katubig. Through these efforts, employees contributed over 1,600 volunteer hours, produced 22 published articles, and developed several innovative sustainability projects.
“Katubig Currents reflects the heart of our sustainability journey—empowering every Manila Water employee to be a storyteller, a changemaker, and a steward of our shared future. This recognition affirms our belief that real climate action begins within,” said Manila Water Sustainability Director Sarah Bergado.
Philippine Quill Awards Recognize Excellence in Communication
The Philippine Quill Awards, organized by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines, is the nation’s most respected accolade for outstanding business communication. Community members noted that the awards celebrate programs that effectively convey important messages and inspire positive change.
Manila Water Foundation’s achievements demonstrate how strategic communication can drive social and environmental progress, reinforcing the vital role organizations play in shaping a sustainable future.
