Manila Water Relief Efforts in Southwest Monsoon
MANILA, Philippines – Manila Water has ramped up its relief and clearing operations amid the continuous rains caused by the southwest monsoon, known locally as “habagat.” The situation worsened due to recent storms and typhoons Crising, Dante, and Emong. In response, Manila Water has taken swift action to support affected communities through comprehensive aid programs.
As of July 25, Manila Water, through the Manila Water Foundation and its East Zone Service areas, supports 173 verified evacuation centers. These centers currently shelter 10,406 families, totaling 39,253 individuals. This shows a notable decrease in evacuees compared to previous days, as many have begun returning home.
Water Distribution and Health Support in Evacuation Centers
In Quezon City, Manila Water Foundation distributed an additional 320 units of 5-gallon potable water to barangays including Culiat, Quirino 2-A, Vasra, East Kamias, and Pasong Tamo. More deliveries are planned for Damayan Lagi, Roxas, and Sauyo. Meanwhile, in the City of Manila, 300 units of 5-gallon bottled water are scheduled for delivery to Manila City Hall.
Rodriguez, Rizal received 275 units of bottled water at the evacuation center in Barangay San Jose. Relief efforts also reached Pasig City, Cainta, Taytay, Binangonan, and Morong. In Baras, Rizal, Manila Water went beyond water aid by providing 200 vials of Erceflora probiotics to help maintain the gut health of evacuees.
Supporting Taguig and Nearby Cities
In Taguig City, Manila Water Foundation and the Manila Water Taguig Service Area delivered 400 units of bottled water to Taguig City Health, ensuring displaced residents have access to safe drinking water. The company remains steadfast in assisting communities and continues close coordination with local government units for timely resource distribution.
Relief operations will continue over the next days, with teams ready to help in post-evacuation cleaning and sanitation.
Water Reuse and Sanitation Initiatives
As part of its commitment to efficient disaster response, Manila Water conducted flushing operations using treated water in public facilities affected by Tropical Storm Dante and the recent “habagat” rains. These facilities include San Jose High School in Rodriguez, Rizal; Malanday Covered Court in Patiis, San Mateo; and Parang Elementary School in Marikina.
In close collaboration with local government units, Manila Water deployed water tankers carrying “Class C” or treated wastewater. This supported road clearing and public space cleaning in heavily impacted areas. This initiative highlights the company’s dedication to environmental stewardship through responsible water reuse.
Through these combined efforts, Manila Water has distributed 3,875 units of 5-gallon potable water in typhoon-affected areas within Metro Manila’s East Zone and Rizal Province as of July 25.
