Marawi City General Hospital to Open Soon
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has set a clear deadline for the Marawi City General Hospital to open by August. During his visit on Monday, he emphasized the urgency of making the new 100-bed facility operational within two months to serve the local community.
“We are giving the contractors and all government agencies a deadline of August na mabuksan na ‘yung hospital para makapag-serbisyo na sa taumbayan,” the President told reporters, underscoring the importance of timely completion.
Ensuring Reliable Services and Infrastructure
The President also highlighted that the hospital currently has a sufficient power supply. However, he noted the need for a standby generator to guarantee that medical equipment remains functional during power outages. This measure aims to secure uninterrupted healthcare services for the residents of Marawi.
Additional Recovery Projects Inspected
Aside from the hospital, President Marcos inspected the Port of Marawi and the Temporary Learning Spaces located in Barangay Sagonsongan. These projects are crucial parts of the ongoing Marawi Recovery, Rehabilitation, and Peacebuilding Program, which the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Marawi Rehabilitation and Development leads.
Background of the Marawi Rehabilitation Effort
The rehabilitation program was launched to accelerate the recovery and reconstruction of Marawi City following the devastating five-month siege in May 2017. That conflict displaced nearly 400,000 residents and heavily damaged the city’s infrastructure.
Local officials and community leaders have expressed optimism that these new facilities will play a vital role in restoring normalcy and improving public services for the affected population.
