Palace Responds to Senator’s Reaction
“Batu-bato sa langit, ang tamaan ay huwag magalit.” This Filipino saying, meaning “If you throw stones to the sky, don’t get angry if one hits you,” was the response of the Palace Press Officer on remarks made by a senator who urged the Marcos administration to stop threatening senators to gain their cooperation.
The Palace official clarified that no specific individuals were targeted, emphasizing that the statement was a general call for unity. “We want the public not to be obstructionist so that the good programs of the President and the administration will continue,” she explained during a briefing.
She also stressed, “We didn’t threaten any senator. We hope that he listened to what I said so he would get a different impression and response to what I stated.” The official encouraged openness to dialogue, hoping for better understanding within the government.
Senator Calls for Positive Engagement
In response, the senator expressed that good camaraderie and cooperation should not begin with warnings or threats. “Kung gusto nila ng magandang samahan, magandang cooperation, do not start with warning or threatening the senators. You better advise her. Kung gusto nila ng magandang tulungan, mag-cooperate tayo para sa ikagaganda ng bansa, do not start it with a warning,” he said, calling for collaborative efforts for the country’s benefit.
Administration’s Stance on Obstructionists
The Palace reiterated that the administration will only confront those who obstruct government efforts and harm progress. The official highlighted that after the recent elections, political affiliations should no longer divide elected officials.
Unity Beyond Politics
“Sa paningin po ng Pangulo, wala na pong Alyansa, wala pong PDP, walang anumang kulay ng pulitika, dapat lahat po ng nahalal ay magkaisa-isa, magkaroon po ng kooperasyon,” the official affirmed. This means that the President sees no place for political alliances or parties in the pursuit of national progress. Instead, elected leaders must unite and work together.
Focus on the People, Not Politics
She added, “Ito naman po ay para sa taumbayan, huwag naman po sana laging politika ang pinag-uusapan at hindi po tayo makakilos at makakausad kung puro pamumulitika at pang-iintriga ang gagawin natin sa pamahalaan.” This calls for moving beyond political bickering to focus on effective governance and public service.
In summary, the Marcos administration urges all elected officials to set aside political differences and cooperate fully to ensure the success of government projects and programs for the benefit of the Filipino people.
