President Ferdinand ”Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is seeking enhanced protection for commuters against abusive drivers, according to Malacañang on Thursday.
According to Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro, there is a directive from the President to provide greater protection for commuters and the general public from abusive drivers. Castro stated, “This is in line with the President’s directive, and the Department of Transportation (DOTr), under the leadership of Secretary Vince Dizon, is implementing this.”
Recently, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) suspended the licenses of 671 drivers due to their involvement in road accidents and positive tests for illegal substances.
Out of the total, the LTO reported that 547 driver’s licenses were suspended following road accidents that resulted in minor physical injuries to fatalities.
On the other hand, 97 licenses were suspended due to positive results from drug tests.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon noted that the 90-day suspension of driver’s licenses may lead to revocation following an investigation.
