Palace Opens Door for Dialogue on Wage Hike as Workers’ Calls Gain Momentum
Malacañang announced on Friday that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. remains open to talks with labor groups regarding their plea for a wage increase.
“Ang Pangulo po ay laging bukas sa anumang diskusyon para sa ikabubuti ng mga manggagawa. Hindi po kami nagsasara ng pintuan,” assured Palace Press Officer Atty. Claire Castro during a briefing.
The Palace emphasized the importance of coordination, adding, “Kailangan lang po sigurong ipaalam sa Pangulo kung paano at kailan upang magkaroon ng maayos na usapan.”
On Labor Day, President Marcos highlighted the delicate balance that must be maintained between wage hikes and the overall health of the economy. He acknowledged the cries of hardworking Filipinos, assuring that their concerns are being heard through the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to “protecting and advancing workers’ welfare” while pushing for “inclusive economic development” that benefits all sectors.
Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) revealed that the review process for minimum wage adjustments in several regions will kick off this month, following the President’s directive.
DOLE also expressed readiness to implement the P200 legislated wage increase the moment Congress passes the bill and the President signs it into law.
As discussions unfold, Filipinos watch closely—hoping that this dialogue will pave the way for fairer wages without destabilizing the nation’s fragile economy.
