President Marcos Leads Inspection of Suspected Crystal Meth
MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. personally led the inspection of suspected crystal meth, locally known as shabu, on Tuesday. This included packages recovered from the waters off the western coast of the country. The president visited the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) headquarters in Quezon City to oversee the confiscated items.
Authorities recently recovered large quantities of suspected illegal drugs floating near the shores of Pangasinan, Zambales, and Cagayan. Fishermen first discovered the floating packages last month, which were then turned over to PDEA for investigation and secure storage.
Seizure Highlights Rising Drug Challenges
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency presented the seized suspected shabu at its headquarters, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the country. Officials confirmed that the recovered drugs weighed a total of 47.3 kilos, collected from three separate recoveries.
Local leaders noted the significance of the discovery, emphasizing the need for continuous vigilance over the country’s maritime borders. “Dako kaayo ang among pasalamat sa mga mangingisda nga nakadiskubre niini,” a local fisherman said, expressing gratitude for the community’s role in the operation.
Marcos’s Commitment to Drug Enforcement
President Marcos’s visit demonstrates the government’s strong stance against illegal drugs. By personally inspecting the seized items, he underscores the administration’s commitment to law enforcement agencies and their critical role in maintaining public safety.
Authorities continue to monitor coastal areas closely to prevent further smuggling attempts. Efforts to engage local communities remain a key part of the strategy to detect and report suspicious activities along the country’s vast seaboard.
