Marcos Leads Massive P9.48-B Drug Destruction in Tarlac

CAPAS, Tarlac — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. spearheaded the incineration of illegal drugs valued at over P9.48 billion in this province. The event highlighted the government’s firm stance on destroying seized narcotics, ensuring they never return to the streets.

Among the vast quantities destroyed were 1,304.604 kilograms of floating packs of “shabu” (methamphetamine hydrochloride), worth around P8.87 billion. These dangerous drugs were recovered by fishermen drifting across the waters of Zambales, Pangasinan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Cagayan.

Comprehensive Destruction of Illegal Substances

Aside from the floating shabu, authorities also destroyed 411.3708 milliliters of liquid shabu, 138.8177 kilograms of marijuana, 1 kilogram of ecstasy, and nearly 4 kilograms of cocaine through thermal decomposition. Smaller quantities of toluene and lidocaine, along with various surrendered expired medicines, were also incinerated to prevent misuse.

Local officials noted that the destruction took place at Clean Leaf International Corporation in Barangay Cutcut II, a licensed waste management facility. This step assures the public that seized drugs are permanently eliminated, leaving no chance for them to be recovered and sold again.

Ensuring a Solid Drug Destruction System

President Marcos emphasized the importance of a foolproof process, saying, “We need to make sure that the drugs that are seized are really destroyed and there is no hope of them ever coming back to be sold, to be obtained, we will report others and we will know what the other, the other incidents that we see.”

He added, “That’s why I’m here today to see how the system works, so that our process is solid, from the capture of illegal drugs all the way to their destruction.”

Unified Effort Against Illegal Drugs

The event was also attended by Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Director General Isagani Nerez, underscoring the unified government effort to combat illegal drugs.

This large-scale destruction represents a key milestone in the administration’s ongoing war on drugs, aiming to safeguard communities and prevent the spread of addiction.
