Marcos Reaffirms Metro Manila Subway Project Commitment
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has once again pledged to complete the Metro Manila Subway Project by 2028. This ambitious infrastructure plan aims to transform urban commuting across the capital region.
During his recent visit to the Camp Aguinaldo Station, the president inspected ongoing construction and emphasized the urgency to accelerate progress. The Metro Manila Subway Project is a key government priority to ease traffic congestion and improve travel efficiency.
Metro Manila Subway Project Route and Impact
The 33-kilometer underground railway will feature 17 stations, stretching from Valenzuela City in the north down to Parañaque City in the south. Once operational, it will dramatically cut travel time between Valenzuela and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, reducing the current two-hour commute to just 40 minutes.
Marcos expressed optimism about inaugurating the subway by the end of his term in 2028. “We might finish this by 2028; maybe we can inaugurate it in 2028,” he said. He added, “Everyone has agreed that we really need to speed things up so that commuting becomes more comfortable for our commuters.”
Progress and Challenges in Subway Construction
At the inspection, Marcos also witnessed the launch of the first Tunnel Boring Machine (CP103), which will dig from Camp Aguinaldo Station in Quezon City toward Ortigas Station in Mandaluyong City. This segment includes an 850-meter tunnel beneath the Corinthian Hills and Corinthian Gardens subdivisions, located in Barangay Ugong Norte.
This section affects 69 privately owned land parcels, with tunnel depths reaching between 19 and 39 meters. Despite efforts by local agencies, some parcels remain unsecured through subterranean right-of-way acquisition, posing challenges to the timeline.
Local officials and sources acknowledged the need for continued coordination to resolve these issues promptly. The government remains committed to completing the Metro Manila Subway Project to deliver faster, safer, and more comfortable travel for millions of commuters.
