Marikina River Under Third Alarm Due to Habagat
MANILA, Philippines — The Marikina River has reached third alarm status this Monday evening following continuous heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon, locally called habagat, affecting Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon. The river’s water level climbed to 18.2 meters by 10:20 p.m., triggering mandatory evacuation orders, local authorities reported.
Because of the rising water, the government has enforced forced evacuations to ensure residents’ safety. The Marikina Public Information Office (PIO) confirmed that several evacuation centers were opened as early as 5 p.m. to accommodate those displaced by the flood risk.

Heavy Rainfall Warnings Across Luzon
Currently, Metro Manila, Bataan, and parts of Bulacan remain under red rainfall warnings. These warnings signal the likelihood of heavy rains and flooding in affected areas. Local leaders urge residents to stay alert and prepare for potential hazards.
Earlier reports from the state weather bureau indicated two low-pressure areas within the Philippine area of responsibility as of 2:00 p.m. Both have a medium chance of developing into tropical depressions within 24 hours, which could further worsen weather conditions.

According to the 5 p.m. heavy rainfall outlook from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration, the following areas are forecast to experience heavy to intense rainfall (100 to 200 millimeters) from Monday afternoon through Tuesday afternoon:
