President Marcos Leads PMMA Class 2025 Graduation
SAN ANTONIO, Zambales – President Marcos Jr. emphasized the importance of service and dedication to maritime excellence as he presided over the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy’s Class of 2025 graduation ceremonies on Friday. The event celebrated the achievements of 252 midshipmen who completed rigorous training in the Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation and Marine Engineering programs.
Throughout the ceremony, the theme of commitment to maritime excellence resonated deeply, reflecting the academy’s mission to develop skilled officers prepared to serve the nation’s maritime sectors.
New Officers Commissioned to Serve the Nation
In a solemn rite, the graduates received their diplomas and were commissioned as ensigns in the Philippine Navy Reserve Force. President Marcos personally conferred honors on the distinguished graduates, recognizing their hard work and leadership.
Among the attendees were key government and maritime officials, including Special Assistant to the President Antonio Ernesto F. Lagdameo, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, Commission on Higher Education Commissioner Desiderio R. Midshipman First Class Marc John Castañeto, 22, stood out as the class valedictorian. He was awarded the Presidential Saber and the Chairman of the Board Award in recognition of his exemplary academic achievements and outstanding leadership qualities. Graduates Embark on Diverse Maritime Careers
Of the 252 graduates, 15 have committed to serving in the Philippine Navy, while 13 joined the Philippine Coast Guard. The majority, 224, will pursue careers as merchant marine officers, contributing to the country’s vital maritime industry. Local leaders highlighted the graduates’ readiness to face the challenges of their respective fields with resilience and professionalism.
