May 12 elections will be peaceful: Comelec’s outlook
Comelec Chairman George Garcia shared in an interview that Filipinos are expected to vote quietly and orderly. He said, “Napakataas ng ating paniniwala sa mga kababayan nating botante na sila ay boboto at magiging tahimik ang ating eleksyon.” This means they highly believe voters will fulfill their duty calmly.
Garcia also explained that the voting system has been set up to be fast and efficient. He expects the process to finish quickly, allowing for a prompt proclamation of winners. “Inaasahan na mabilis tayong makakatapos dito dahil medyo na-set up na natin ang mabilis na sistema at proseso para masigurado na mabilis din ang pagproklama,” he added.
Trust in the process and beware fake news
Aside from encouraging voter participation, Garcia urged the public to trust the electoral system and be cautious about misinformation.
This reminder highlights the importance of relying on official information and not falling for false reports that could disrupt the election’s integrity.
Campaign materials must be removed before Election Day
As part of enforcing election rules, Garcia reminded all national and local candidates that large campaign posters and tarpaulins on highways must be taken down by midnight before Election Day.
Furthermore, starting 12:01 a.m. on Election Day, all forms of campaigning, including on social media, are prohibited.
