Metro Manila Crime Rates Drop by 18.7 Percent
Crime rates in Metro Manila dropped by 18.7 percent in the past week, officials reported, signaling progress in public safety efforts. The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) revealed that focus crimes decreased from 139 incidents between August 9 and 16, 2024, to 113 incidents in the same period this year.

Detailed Decline in Focus Crimes
Focus crimes, which include murder, homicide, rape, physical injuries, carnapping of vehicles and motorcycles, robbery, and theft, all saw reductions except for robbery, which remained steady. Community members noted the following changes:
- Carnapping of motor vehicles fell sharply from four to zero cases.
- Murder cases dropped more than half, from 12 to five.
- Carnapping of motorcycles halved from eight to four cases.
- Homicide incidents declined from four to two.
- Rape cases decreased from 20 to 14.
- Physical injuries slightly reduced from nine to eight cases.
- Theft saw a minor drop from 67 to 65 cases.
- Robbery remained constant at 15 cases.
Improved Crime Clearance and Solution Efficiency
Officials reported an improvement in crime handling efficiency, with crime clearance rates reaching 88.50 percent. Crime solution efficiency also rose by 10.52 percent compared to 2024, now standing at 83.19 percent. Sources explained that a case is considered cleared once the offender is identified and charged, while a case is solved upon the offender’s arrest.
Operations Against Wanted Persons, Drugs, and Gambling
During the same period, the NCRPO arrested 358 individuals, including 138 most wanted persons and 220 other suspects, according to local leaders. Additionally, authorities conducted 209 anti-narcotics operations, resulting in the arrest of 299 individuals and confiscation of drugs valued at P9.5 million.
Confiscated substances included 1,384.5 grams of suspected shabu (crystal meth), 173.4 grams of suspected marijuana leaves, and 46 grams of suspected kush. Community members also reported the arrest of 503 individuals involved in illegal gambling, with bet money amounting to P103,709 seized.
Firearms Recovery and Local Ordinance Violations
Police also recovered 29 loose firearms during operations. Meanwhile, the NCRPO recorded 61,710 violations of local ordinances, collecting approximately P17.8 million in fees. Of those caught, 38,648 were warned and released, 22,794 were fined, and 268 were charged.

- Public drinking and/or smoking – 20,911 cases
- Traffic-related offenses – 18,451 cases
- Littering – 7,135 cases
- Roaming without skirts – 6,407 cases
- Curfew violations involving minors – 5,942 cases
- Illegal obstructions – 791 cases
- Karaoke disturbances – 377 cases
- Vandalism – 28 cases
- Other violations – 1,668 cases
Local leaders emphasized the continuous efforts to maintain peace and order across Metro Manila. “The decrease in crime rates and improved efficiency reflects our commitment to public safety,” community members said.
