Flood Conditions in Metro Manila Deepen After Continuous Rain
Metro Manila is grappling with severe flood conditions as several major roads remain submerged due to relentless rains. The flood conditions in Metro Manila worsened following the heavy downpour caused by the northwest monsoon, intensified by Tropical Storm Crising. Many families sought shelter as waist-deep waters inundated key thoroughfares.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported that several critical routes experienced significant flooding, with some areas becoming impassable for certain vehicle types. The flood conditions in Metro Manila have disrupted daily commutes and aggravated traffic woes across the metropolitan area.
Key Flooded Areas and Road Conditions
In Manila City, areas such as Recto Mendiola Intersection and Palanca Quinta Market faced gutter-deep floods but remained passable to all vehicles. However, parts of España Boulevard, including Dela Fuente and Antipolo intersections, experienced knee-deep water, restricting light vehicles from passing through.
Quezon City suffered some of the worst flooding. G. Araneta Avenue was submerged up to chest and waist levels, rendering it impassable to all vehicles. Other points such as Biak na Bato corner Atok street had knee-deep water, limiting passage to heavier vehicles only. Balintawak near St. Joseph Church remained passable despite gutter-deep water.
In Valenzuela City, McArthur Highway and several barangays, including Marulas and Malanday, saw waist to chest-deep flooding, blocking vehicle movement. Similarly, Parañaque’s Dr. A Santos and SM Sucat areas faced waist-deep floods, stopping traffic entirely for most vehicles.
Other cities like Las Piñas, Malabon, Makati, Caloocan, Marikina, Pasay, Mandaluyong, and Muntinlupa also reported varying flood depths, mostly gutter to knee-deep, affecting traffic flow but generally remaining passable for all vehicle types except light vehicles in certain spots.
Authorities Urge Caution and Preparedness
Officials remind residents and motorists to exercise caution when traveling in flood-affected zones. The state weather bureau issued a red rainfall warning for Metro Manila, signaling the possibility of severe flooding and urging the public to stay alert and prepared.
Local leaders noted that 19 families, totaling 74 individuals, took refuge in evacuation centers due to rising floodwaters. Emergency services continue to monitor the situation and provide assistance where needed.
