Metro Manila Flooding Problem: Private Sector Steps Up

President Marcos Welcomes Private Sector Role in Metro Manila Flooding Problem

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed gratitude on Monday for San Miguel Corporation Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ramon Ang’s offer to assist in addressing the Metro Manila flooding problem. Officials reported that the President emphasized the importance of private sector involvement in national development efforts.

“Thank you,” Marcos said during a press conference when asked about Ang’s proposal. He further explained that collaboration between government and private entities is vital to effectively tackle persistent infrastructure challenges.

Ramon Ang Proposes Solutions to Metro Manila Flooding Problem

During a press briefing on August 8, Ramon Ang outlined his suggestions to alleviate flooding in Metro Manila. Community members noted that Ang recommended clearing clogged waterways to restore natural water flow.

Moreover, he highlighted the need to relocate houses and other structures built along riverbanks, which obstruct water movement and exacerbate flooding risks. Local leaders acknowledged that such measures could significantly reduce flood impact in vulnerable areas.

Private Sector’s Crucial Role in National Development

Officials stressed that the private sector’s participation in infrastructure projects, such as flood control, is essential for sustainable development. Marcos’ administration views partnerships with businesses as key to accelerating solutions that benefit millions of residents.

Community representatives echoed that combining government resources with private expertise and funding can create more resilient urban environments, particularly in flood-prone zones.

Moving Forward with Collaborative Efforts

Sources said the government is open to exploring public-private partnerships to implement effective flood mitigation strategies. Relocation of informal settlers along waterways and systematic declogging are among the initial steps under consideration.

Officials believe that coordinated action will not only address Metro Manila’s flooding problem but also improve overall urban planning and disaster preparedness.
