Major Drug Sweep Targets Street-Level Pushers in Metro Manila
In a recent intensified effort to curb illegal drugs, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) arrested 81 suspected street-level drug pushers during a three-day operation across Metro Manila. This significant crackdown aims to complement ongoing campaigns targeting high-level drug syndicates.
The drive, conducted from May 20 to 23, led to the seizure of illegal drugs valued at approximately P9.1 million. According to sources familiar with the matter, these operations directly target the street-level pushers who poison communities with illegal substances. NCRPO officials emphasized their commitment to enforcing the law thoroughly while respecting existing legal procedures.
“We are taking the fight directly against the enemies in the frontlines—the street-level pushers. These people poison our streets with illegal drugs and NCRPO vows to hunt them down, with the full force of the law,” a senior police official said, echoing directives from higher authorities to clear the streets of drug pushers legally and effectively.
Breakdown of Arrests and Drug Seizures
The Southern Police District (SPD) led the arrests with 25 suspects detained, followed by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) with 18, and the Eastern Police District (EPD) with 16. The Northern Police District (NPD) and the Manila Police District (MPD) also contributed with 12 and 10 arrests respectively.
One notable operation involved two 18-year-old female suspects, newly identified as high-value targets, apprehended by the Eastern Police District’s Drug Enforcement Unit during a buy-bust in Pasig City. The suspects were caught carrying 792.44 grams of methamphetamine, hidden in various containers.
Disrupting Drug Supply Chains and Protecting Communities
Police reports indicate that information from captured street-level pushers often leads to uncovering larger operations and higher-ranking targets within the drug trade. These coordinated efforts have not only removed dangerous drugs from neighborhoods but also disrupted emerging supply routes, many operated by young and small-time dealers.
“These coordinated operations not only led to the removal of dangerous drugs from communities but also disrupted emerging supply chains operated by youth and small-time pushers, a reflection of how the drug menace continues to evolve and penetrate even unsuspecting segments of society,” a law enforcement insider explained.
The NCRPO remains committed to the broader mandate of eliminating the drug menace. They aim to secure peace, safety, and a drug-free future for all Filipinos while upholding human rights and dignity.
