Metro Manila Rain Forecast During Sona Day
Metro Manila is set to experience rainy weather on Monday, July 28, coinciding with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s State of the Nation Address (Sona), sources said. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecasts cloudy skies with chances of light to moderate rain due to the southwest monsoon, locally called habagat.
Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina reported early Monday that “in Metro Manila, where our president’s Sona will be held, the sky is generally still cloudy today with light to moderate rains.” He also emphasized, “There is a higher likelihood of rain, with occasional heavy showers in the afternoon and evening.”
Weather Outlook Across Luzon
Aside from Metro Manila, several areas in Luzon will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. These include the Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and the Cordillera Administrative Region. Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon is expected to enjoy generally fair weather, though isolated rain showers and thunderstorms may still develop from afternoon to evening.
Impact of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat)
Badrina noted that the habagat will also bring isolated rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan and the Visayas, particularly during the latter part of the day. In contrast, most parts of Mindanao are forecast to have slightly hot weather, but thunderstorms remain a possibility later on.
Monitoring Tropical Systems
Pagasa continues to monitor Tropical Depression Co-May (formerly Emong) and Typhoon Krosa, both currently outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. Although these cyclones are not expected to directly impact the country, they may enhance the habagat’s effects, bringing more rain over affected areas, local weather experts noted.
Residents in Metro Manila and nearby provinces are advised to stay updated and prepare for potential heavy rains during the Sona day. For more news and updates on weather conditions, visit Filipinokami.com.
