Metro Manila Subway Project Ortigas Station Construction Starts
After enduring a two-year delay, the construction of the Metro Manila Subway Project Ortigas Station in Pasig City has officially commenced, officials reported. This milestone marks a significant step forward for the massive infrastructure initiative designed to transform urban transit in the region.
The P488.5-billion Metro Manila Subway Project Ortigas Station faced setbacks mainly due to right-of-way complications, sources said. Despite these challenges, work has now started, signaling renewed momentum for the subway’s development.
Revised Timeline for Completion and Operation
Although the original plan targeted a 2028 completion date, current projections indicate that the Ortigas Station will be finished within three years, with full operations expected two years later, around 2031, local leaders noted. This timeline reflects a pragmatic approach to ensuring quality construction and safety standards.
“Many commuters will surely benefit from this [MMSP], especially since there are many workers in the business district of Ortigas,” a transportation official remarked, highlighting the project’s potential to ease daily travel for thousands.
First Underground Subway in the Philippines
The Metro Manila Subway Project Ortigas Station will be part of the country’s first-ever underground subway system. Stretching approximately 35 kilometers, the railway will feature 17 stations, connecting key cities such as Valenzuela, Quezon City, Pasig, Taguig, Parañaque, and Pasay, sources reported.
Once operational, the subway is expected to serve over half a million passengers daily, significantly alleviating traffic congestion across Metro Manila.
Reduced Travel Time and Enhanced Connectivity
One of the most anticipated benefits of the Metro Manila Subway Project Ortigas Station is the reduced travel time from Quezon City to Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City. The journey, which currently takes around 70 minutes, will be shortened to approximately 45 minutes, community members said.
This improvement will not only enhance commuter convenience but also boost economic activities by facilitating smoother transportation within Metro Manila.
