MILF Member Arrested in Wao Town for Shabu Possession
Authorities arrested a Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) member during a drug buy-bust operation in Wao town, Lanao del Sur, officials reported. The operation led to the seizure of methamphetamine estimated at P3.1 million, raising concerns over drug activities in the area.
In a briefing to Brig. Gen. Jaysen de Guzman, police director of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) identified the suspect as 34-year-old farmer Jamil Saripada from Barangay East Kili-Kili, Wao, Lanao del Sur. Saripada’s arrest is a significant development in the ongoing fight against illegal drugs within the region.
Details of the Buy-Bust Operation and Arrest
The arrest occurred during an undercover buy-bust operation in Barangay Buntongan on Monday. Saripada allegedly handed over a sachet of suspected shabu to an undercover agent, triggering immediate police action. Community members noted the swift response and the importance of such operations to curb drug proliferation.
Recovered from Saripada was methamphetamine with an estimated street value of P3,128,000. Identification cards found in his possession linked him to the MILF’s 103rd Base Command operating in Lanao del Sur, confirming his affiliation. This connection has prompted authorities to intensify monitoring efforts in the area.
Police Response and Next Steps
Lt. Col. Josue delos Reyes Jr., Wao police chief, directed his team to strengthen anti-drug surveillance following the buy-bust incident. He emphasized the need for continuous vigilance to prevent similar illegal activities. “We will intensify our anti-drug monitoring activities,” he said, underscoring the commitment to safeguard the community.
Saripada is currently detained at the Wao police lock-up cell. Authorities are preparing charges against him for violating Republic Act 9165, known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The swift legal process aims to hold offenders accountable and deter future drug offenses.
