Military Discovers Arms Cache in South Cotabato Town
KORONADAL CITY – The military uncovered a hidden weapons cache in the upland town of Tboli, South Cotabato, on Sunday, July 20, 2025. Authorities found two M16 rifles, ammunition, and improvised explosive devices believed to belong to communist rebels operating in the area.
Lt. Colonel Erickzen C. Dacoco, commander of the 105th Infantry Battalion, revealed that troops from Delta Company conducted an intelligence-driven operation that led to the discovery. The cache included two M16 rifles and a bandolier holding four short empty magazines, all buried in Barangay T’bolok.
Recovered Explosives Weaken Rebel Threats
Earlier on July 15, the military, aided by local informants, located and recovered four powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs) buried within the same village. These successful recoveries not only reduce the enemy’s firepower but also highlight the critical role of continued cooperation between government forces and the local community.
“These successful recoveries not only weaken the capability of threat groups but also reaffirm the importance of sustained cooperation between the government troops and the local populace,” Lt. Col. Dacoco emphasized in a statement.
Communist Presence Spreads Across Region
According to military sources, the communist New People’s Army (NPA) maintains operations not only in Tboli but also in Lake Sebu in South Cotabato, and in the municipalities of Sen. Ninoy Aquino, Lebak, Kalamansig, and Palimbang in Sultan Kudarat.
Brigadier General Michael Santos, commander of the 603rd Infantry Brigade, praised the troops for their effective operation that dismantled part of the rebel arsenal and contributed to regional security.
