Minor Thieves Target American Citizen in BGC
An American citizen fell victim to minor thieves in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Taguig, but expressed relief and gratitude when the police quickly recovered his stolen phone. The incident unfolded around 11:50 a.m. on June 5, as the 47-year-old businessman, surnamed Thomas, was walking along 25th Street in Barangay Fort Bonifacio en route to a mall.
Suddenly, Thomas was surrounded by six minors who asked him for money. Just as he was about to comply, he realized his smartphone, valued at P15,000, was taken from his back pocket. The group immediately ran away.
Swift Police Action Leads to Recovery
Thomas promptly sought help from nearby officers on patrol. Personnel from the BGC Sub-Station 1 of the Taguig police responded within minutes. Through a follow-up operation, the police tracked down one suspect, a 15-year-old boy from Maharlika Village, Taguig, and recovered the stolen phone.
The minor was taken to Sub-Station 1 for processing and was later referred to the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) and the Taguig City Social Welfare and Development Office. This action complies with Republic Act 9344, also known as the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act.
Support and Intervention for the Minor Suspect
Authorities confirmed that the minor will receive psychosocial intervention under the care of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO). Meanwhile, Thomas expressed his appreciation for the police’s prompt response.
“BGC Taguig is still a great place for foreigners, Filipinos. Thank you to the BGC police,” Thomas said in a recorded video.
