Misamis Oriental Gov Orders Early Salary Release for Workers
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — First-term Misamis Oriental Governor Juliette Uy has directed the early salary release for provincial government workers. However, the governor insists the payouts must occur only in her presence to ensure transparency.
Provincial Administrator Angel Lim announced Monday that employees can begin claiming their long-delayed salaries for July this week. The payments will be made over the counter at the Provincial Treasurer’s Office, strictly following the governor’s instructions.
Lim clarified that this temporary system covers all provincial staff, including those on job orders, casual appointments, and hospital personnel across the province. The only exceptions are members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and Vice Governor Jeremy Jonahmar Pelaez.
Governor’s Personal Oversight Sparks Temporary System
Governor Uy reportedly pointed out that although the Capitol employs over 4,000 workers, only around 300 attend the flag-raising ceremonies regularly. She wants to personally witness each employee receiving their salary, emphasizing a government system rooted in checks and balances.
Lim explained that the governor’s request aims to ensure accountability in the payout process. “This is part of our effort to maintain transparency and proper monitoring,” local officials noted.
Concerns Over Potential Delays Despite Relief
While workers welcomed the announcement, some expressed worries about possible significant delays due to the new payout procedure. Traditionally, employees receive their salaries directly through their bank accounts, which the Capitol payroll system processes automatically.
“We might not finish getting paid until September,” said an employee who asked to be identified only as Danilo. This concern highlights the challenges of shifting to an over-the-counter payment system, especially with thousands of employees involved.
Despite these concerns, the temporary payout method reflects the governor’s commitment to closely monitor salary distribution amid previous delays.
