MMDA Warns Against Fake Class Suspension Posts
MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority strongly denied the circulating class suspension announcements for Monday, July 14. The agency labeled these posts as fake news, urging the public to stay alert and verify information before sharing.
In a statement on social media, the MMDA highlighted screenshots from Facebook pages named “Walang Pasok Advisory” and “Philippine Weather Specific System/Pacific Storm Update.” These pages falsely displayed the MMDA logo, misleading many users.
“Announcements on class suspension tomorrow, July 14, are fake and did not come from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority,” the advisory emphasized. The MMDA urged everyone to be responsible social media users and to only trust news from official government channels.
“If you receive a suspicious message or post on social media, please contact the MMDA Hotline 136 or message the MMDA official accounts for verification,” the agency added.
Weather Updates and Public Advisory
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) confirmed that the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, will continue to bring rains to parts of the country on Monday. However, Pagasa clarified that no low-pressure area is currently being monitored that could develop into a tropical cyclone within the Philippine area of responsibility.
As of Sunday afternoon, tropical storm “Nari” remains outside the monitoring zone of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) – Pagasa. This means no immediate threat is expected from this storm for the country.
The MMDA’s warning against fake class suspension announcements comes at a crucial time when accurate weather information is vital for public safety and daily planning. Local authorities reminded citizens to remain vigilant and rely only on verified sources.
