MMDA Suspends Number Coding Scheme Due to Bad Weather
MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has suspended the number coding scheme for Thursday, July 24, 2025. This decision comes amid severe weather conditions brought by the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, and two tropical storms currently affecting the country.
The number coding scheme has been on hold since Monday as the authorities prioritize public safety during these adverse weather conditions. “The number coding scheme is suspended tomorrow, July 24, 2025 because of bad weather,” the MMDA announced in an advisory written in Filipino.
Government Suspends Classes and Work Amid Storms
Alongside the MMDA’s suspension of the number coding scheme, the Department of the Interior and Local Government has also suspended classes and government work across Metro Manila, Luzon, and parts of the Visayas. This precautionary measure aims to protect residents from the hazards posed by the ongoing weather disturbances.
Tracking Tropical Storms Emong and Dante
According to the latest 5 p.m. weather bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Tropical Storm Emong is expected to strengthen and may reach severe tropical storm status before making landfall on Friday.
Currently, Emong is located approximately 150 kilometers west of Laoag City in Ilocos Norte. It is moving southwest at 20 kilometers per hour, carrying maximum winds of 65 kph with gusts reaching up to 80 kph, local leaders noted.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Dante maintains its intensity as it moves north-northwest at 25 kph. It is positioned about 835 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon, carrying similar maximum wind speeds of 65 kph and gustiness up to 80 kph.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, urging the public to stay updated and heed safety advisories.
