MMDA Calls for Action on Traffic Congestion Near La Salle Green Hills
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has urged La Salle Green Hills to address the persistent traffic congestion caused by vehicles dropping off and picking up students along Ortigas Avenue. This major thoroughfare in Mandaluyong City has been heavily affected by the volume of service and private vehicles operating near the school.
Officials reported that the MMDA sent a formal letter to the school administration on Monday, highlighting the ongoing traffic issues surrounding the area. The four-word keyphrase traffic congestion along Ortigas was emphasized early in the communication to stress the urgency of the problem.
Traffic Violations Escalate Despite Prior Warnings
MMDA Chair Don Artes revealed that despite previous warnings, a total of 938 violations were recorded from July 18 to August 14 through the agency’s No Contact Apprehension Policy. These infractions include illegal parking, obstruction, and unauthorized loading or unloading, primarily during peak school hours.
Local authorities noted that 403 of these violations occurred in just one week, between July 11 and July 17. Artes pointed out that these violations significantly contribute to the worsening traffic congestion along Ortigas Avenue, impacting not only vehicle flow but also public safety and commuter welfare.
MMDA Encourages Stricter Traffic Management Measures
The MMDA chief called on La Salle Green Hills to implement stricter internal traffic management strategies to help ease the congestion. He emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic laws to protect the safety of all road users in the vicinity.
Community members said Artes encouraged the school to enhance coordination with the MMDA for joint traffic management efforts. Such collaboration aims to develop effective strategies that reduce congestion and improve convenience for motorists and commuters alike.
School Yet to Respond to Traffic Concerns
Efforts to reach La Salle Green Hills for comment have so far been unanswered. Despite this, officials remain hopeful that the school will cooperate to resolve the continuing traffic issues.
Artes concluded, “We trust in your cooperation in addressing this continuing concern. Together, we can promote discipline and road safety in the area surrounding your school.”
