MANILA, Philippines — Moderate to heavy rain is set to affect Metro Manila and 10 other Luzon areas this Saturday afternoon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa). The forecast highlights the likelihood of intense showers accompanied by lightning and strong winds.
Pagasa’s 1:40 p.m. thunderstorm advisory warns of moderate to heavy rain showers with lightning and gusty winds expected within the next two hours in key areas. These include Metro Manila, Laguna, Batangas, Cavite, Rizal, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, and Bataan. Residents in these regions should stay alert and take necessary precautions.
Areas Facing Heavy Rain and Possible Hazards
In addition, heavy to intense rain showers with lightning and strong winds are currently impacting parts of Quezon province. The affected towns of Atimonan, Pagbilao, Mauban, Tayabas, Lucban, and Padre Burgos may experience these conditions for the next two hours, potentially affecting nearby communities as well.
Local authorities urge everyone to prepare for the possible hazards related to these weather conditions, including flash floods and landslides. “All are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts associated with these hazards which include flash floods and landslides,” sources said.
Southwest Monsoon Brings Widespread Rain
Earlier reports from the weather bureau indicated that the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, will continue to bring rain to most parts of the country throughout Saturday. The warm, moist winds from the habagat are expected to intensify rainfall, particularly during the afternoon hours.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updates and heed warnings to stay safe amid the ongoing weather disturbances.
