Moderate to Heavy Rainfall Forecast for Luzon
Ilocos Norte and eight other Luzon provinces are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall from Sunday through Monday afternoon due to the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, sources said. This weather pattern will bring significant rain, affecting daily life and travel in these regions.
According to the latest weather updates, the moderate to heavy rainfall—ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters—is forecasted in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro from July 27 to the afternoon of July 28.
Risks of Flooding and Landslides
Officials warn that localized flooding may occur, especially in urban centers, low-lying zones, and areas adjacent to rivers. In addition, landslides remain a concern in regions prone to such hazards, urging residents to stay vigilant.
Tropical Systems Outside Philippine Waters
Weather experts are monitoring Tropical Depression Emong and Severe Tropical Storm Krosa, currently located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. Emong is approximately 1,020 kilometers northeast of Northern Luzon, moving eastward at 25 kph with winds up to 55 kph and gusts reaching 70 kph. Meanwhile, Krosa lies 2,395 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, sustaining winds of 110 kph with gusts up to 135 kph, moving north at 15 kph.
Though these systems will not directly impact the country, they contribute to the intensification of the habagat, enhancing rainfall across affected areas.
Current Weather Conditions Due to Habagat
Residents in the Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro are experiencing occasional rains. Meanwhile, Metro Manila, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Central Luzon, and parts of Mimaropa face cloudy skies accompanied by scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
Other parts of the country report partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain or thunderstorms.
Local leaders emphasize preparedness and caution amid the ongoing weather disturbances.
