Moderate to Heavy Rains Forecast Over Metro Manila and Luzon Provinces
Officials reported that a low-pressure area (LPA) combined with the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat, will bring moderate to heavy rains across the Philippines starting Tuesday afternoon. This weather system is expected to affect Metro Manila and nine provinces in Luzon, according to the state weather bureau.
Local authorities noted that the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) issued an advisory at 4 p.m., forecasting cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the LPA. The affected areas include Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Camarines Sur, and Camarines Norte.
Southwest Monsoon Brings Widespread Rain in Other Regions
Community members said the southwest monsoon will also bring similar weather conditions to other parts of the country. These include Mimaropa, the remainder of the Bicol Region, Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, and Soccsksargen. The monsoon is forecasted to cause isolated rainstorms or thunderstorms in the rest of Mindanao as well.
Rainfall Amounts and Areas at Risk
Officials reported that due to the low-pressure area, between 50 to 100 millimeters of rain will likely fall from Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday afternoon in Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Laguna, Rizal, Camarines Sur, and Camarines Norte. Quezon province is expected to experience heavier rainfall, with amounts ranging from 100 to 200 millimeters during the same period.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon is projected to deliver 50 to 100 millimeters of rain to Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, and Antique from Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday afternoon, local leaders noted.
Warnings on Possible Hazards
Authorities warned residents to remain vigilant as the heavy rains may trigger flash floods or landslides in vulnerable areas. Community members advised preparedness and caution, especially in flood-prone and mountainous regions.
Current Location of the Low-Pressure Area
As of 3 p.m., the low-pressure area was positioned over the coastal waters of Mercedes, Camarines Norte, officials reported. Residents in affected areas are urged to stay updated with the latest weather advisories and take necessary precautions.
