Months-Long Manhunt Ends with Arrest in Bacolor

Months-Long Manhunt Ends with Arrest

After a months-long manhunt, authorities finally arrested a man in Bacolor, Pampanga, accused of raping a 19-year-old college student in a dormitory in Aklan. The exact four word keyphrase “months-long manhunt ends” applies to this case that drew attention nationwide.

The suspect, Alvin Lacson, worked as a caretaker in the student dormitory where the incident happened. He was responsible for the safety and daily needs of the students living there. However, one tenant, a 19-year-old college student, later accused him of sexual assault that occurred one night inside the dorm.

Escape and Capture Across Regions

Shortly after the complaint was filed, Lacson fled Aklan. His escape led authorities to track him across different regions. Eventually, operatives found him in Pampanga and took him into custody. The months-long manhunt ends with this arrest, showing the persistence of law enforcement.

Police Brigadier General Jonathan Cabal of the Maritime Group said, “Alam natin mag-e-eleksyon, at siguro hindi niya inakala… busy ang kapulisan… na hindi na maaala yung kanyang kaso.” (We knew the elections were coming, and maybe he thought the police would be too busy and would forget about his case.)

Suspect’s Response and Legal Proceedings

The suspect admitted involvement but denied forcing the victim. He stated, “Natukso lang kami… nung gabi na ‘yun,” which means, “We were just tempted… that night.” When asked if he forced the victim, Lacson replied, “Hindi po.” (No, I did not.) He added, “Kasi siya naman ang nagpunta sa akin… siya tumabi sakin.” (Because she came to me… she lay beside me.)

He also expressed remorse and hoped to resolve the matter privately, saying, “Humihingi rin ako ng tawad sa nangyari na ‘yun… Aregluhin na lang namin… may pamilya rin ako.” (I’m also asking for forgiveness for what happened… I hope we can just settle this… I have a family too.)

The victim chose not to make a public statement. Authorities assured that legal proceedings will continue and emphasized their commitment to securing justice for the victim.

Months-long manhunt ends with this arrest, but the case remains ongoing as the legal process unfolds.
