More Mountain Roads Closed in Cordillera Amid Crising
BAGUIO CITY — More mountain roads in Cordillera faced closures on Saturday, July 19, as Tropical Storm Crising unleashed heavy rains across the highland region while moving out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility. The storm’s impact led to multiple road blockages and disruptions in travel.
Three vital roads in Calanasan town, Apayao province, were shut down due to landslides and swollen river waters, sources said. These closures affected local travel and hampered relief efforts.
Landslides Block Key Cordillera Roads
A soil collapse affected three segments of the Claveria-Calanasan-Kabugao Road in the villages of Eva, Namaltugan, and Ninoy in Calanasan, cutting off access and requiring urgent repair work. Meanwhile, erosion and a washed-out detour on the Apayao-Ilocos Norte Road near the Annaran Bridge construction site over the Madalagundug River were actively being cleared by work crews as of midday.
High river levels also flooded a detour near another construction zone — the Tanglagan Bridge over the Tanglagan River in Calanasan. This further complicated travel and repair operations.
Rockslides and Power Outages in Baguio City
In Baguio City, Kennon Road remained closed due to recurring rockslides triggered by the storm. Some neighborhoods also experienced power outages caused by fallen trees, affecting residents and businesses.
Road Slip in Benguet Province
In Benguet province, crews responded promptly to a road slip along the Governor Bado Dangwa National Road in Kapangan town. Repair efforts are underway to restore safe passage.
Travelers and residents are advised to stay updated on road conditions as recovery continues. Local leaders noted the importance of caution and preparedness during this storm season.
