Over 3.2 Million People Affected by Weather Disturbances
As of Wednesday night, over 3.2 million people have been affected by the recent weather disturbances, local authorities said. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reports that 3,219,387 individuals from 927,677 families have experienced impacts from the southwest monsoon (habagat), Severe Tropical Storms Crising (Wipha) and Dante, and the latest Tropical Storm Emong.
These affected communities span 4,082 barangays across multiple regions, including the National Capital Region, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, Caraga, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Current Evacuation and Damage Reports
Among those affected, 152,704 individuals are currently sheltered inside evacuation centers, while 81,379 others remain outside these facilities. The DSWD also recorded 391 houses that were completely destroyed and 1,330 homes that suffered partial damage due to the storms.
In response, the agency has distributed over 174 million pesos worth of humanitarian aid to support affected families. Community leaders emphasized the ongoing need for assistance as recovery efforts continue.
