Over 40 Flights Canceled Due to Bad Weather
On Wednesday morning, July 23, a total of 47 flights were canceled as bad weather swept across the Philippines. The disruptions stemmed from a low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) combined with the southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat. These conditions are expected to worsen due to Tropical Depression Dante.
Authorities advised passengers to stay updated as flight cancellations affected several major domestic and international routes. The Civil Aviation Authority reported cancellations as of 5 a.m.
Philippine Airlines Flight Cancellations
Several Philippine Airlines flights were grounded, including routes between Davao and Manila, Manila and Panglao, and international flights to and from Hong Kong. Key canceled flights include PR 2808 (Davao–Manila), PR 2771 (Manila–Panglao), PR 2772 (Panglao–Manila), and PR 300 (Manila–Hong Kong).
Cebgo and Cebu Pacific Flights Grounded
Cebgo also canceled multiple flights connecting Manila to Naga and Cebu. Meanwhile, Cebu Pacific suspended over 30 flights covering destinations like Cauayan, Bicol, Roxas, Cagayan de Oro, Laoag, Bacolod, Tuguegarao, San Jose (Mindoro), Dumaguete, Puerto Princesa, Tacloban, Ozamis, Zamboanga, Butuan, and Caticlan.
Passengers were urged to check directly with their respective airlines for the latest updates, rebooking options, or refund policies.
Weather Updates and Safety Measures
Meteorological agencies reported that Tropical Depression Dante was last located approximately 880 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon. It continues to maintain maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour with gusts reaching up to 70 kph. Moving northwest at 25 kph, Dante is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm within 12 hours.
Meanwhile, the LPA over the coastal waters of Calayan, Cagayan, has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours. Local officials emphasized ongoing monitoring of weather developments, coordinating closely with airline operators and airport authorities to ensure traveler safety.
Travelers should remain vigilant and plan accordingly as weather conditions evolve.
