Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Global Strengthen Cultural Ties
After celebrating its inaugural winners last February, Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Global is taking bold steps to highlight the shared heritage of the Chinese and Filipino communities. During a special gathering at Shangri-La Plaza’s Red Carpet Cinema on June 7, the pageant’s Executive Director, Mikko Araneta, revealed a new collaboration with Virtual Playground.
“To ensure a successful second year, we partnered with a respected organization known for nurturing talent and delivering results. We’re excited to introduce Charlie Dy, who will oversee the first Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Global Philippines,” Mikko shared.
Virtual Playground will manage the local competition, selecting representatives to compete internationally with other Huaren candidates worldwide for the coveted Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Global Year 2 titles. Charlie Dy expressed pride in the opportunity, stating, “It is a great honor for Virtual Playground to uplift the Chinoy community by honoring individuals who embody our rich heritage and potential.”
New Initiatives Highlight Chinoy Heritage
Alongside this partnership, Chinoy TV announced a documentary, “Chinese by Blood, Global by Heart,” showcasing stories from the first Mr. and Ms. Chinatown Global contestants. The event also marked the launch of Hua Magazine, further promoting Chinoy culture.
During the event, media had the chance to interact with year one winners: Byron Sng (Mr. Chinatown Global 2025) from Malaysia, Khryss Go (Ms. Chinatown Global 2025), along with runners-up Aragon Lor, Juliette Louie, Joseph Morris, and Jenina Lui.
Byron reflected, “This title has shaped me into a confident person proud of my identity. No matter where I am, I will always share and celebrate my culture.”
Khryss added, “Even outside the organization, they ask how the pageant has impacted me. Promoting our heritage is vital because we’re often seen as minorities. This pageant allows us to celebrate and embrace our identity.”
