MRT-3 Announces Free Rides for Persons with Disabilities
The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) will provide free rides for persons with disabilities from July 17 to July 23, 2025, to mark National Disability Rights Week. This initiative aims to ease transportation costs and highlight the importance of disability rights in the country.
According to local sources, free rides will be available daily from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and again from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. during the designated week. To avail of the free rides, PWD passengers only need to present their PWD identification cards to station personnel.
Discounted Fares Outside Free Ride Hours
Outside these hours, persons with disabilities can still enjoy a 50 percent discount on fares. This follows a recent directive from President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr., who sought to ease travel expenses for PWDs and senior citizens across Metro Manila’s train lines.
The president’s order took effect starting July 16, allowing PWDs and senior citizens to access discounted fares on all three major train lines in the metropolitan area. This move emphasizes the government’s commitment to making public transportation more accessible and affordable.
Local transportation officials emphasized the importance of these measures in supporting the daily commute of persons with disabilities. They encouraged eligible passengers to take advantage of the benefits during National Disability Rights Week and beyond.
