MRT-3 Returns to Full Speed Following Signaling Issue
The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) has restored its normal operating speed after resolving a signaling problem at Santolan Station in Pasig City. Officials reported that the line resumed its maximum speed of 60 kilometers per hour by 10:28 a.m. on Friday.
Earlier in the morning, a speed restriction was imposed between Ortigas Station and Cubao Station (northbound) due to a signaling malfunction detected at a wayside signal approaching Santolan Station. This caused trains to slow down temporarily while technicians worked on the issue.
Technical Response and Train Operations
Technical personnel promptly arrived on-site to troubleshoot and repair the signaling fault. Their swift action allowed the MRT-3 to quickly return to normal operations, minimizing inconvenience to commuters.
Currently, a total of 20 trains are active on the line to accommodate passengers. These include 17 three-car CKD trains, one four-car CKD train, and one Dalian train, ensuring sufficient capacity during peak travel hours, community members said.
Impact on Commuters and Service Reliability
The signaling issue briefly affected northbound train speeds, but the prompt resolution helped maintain consistent transit flow. Local leaders noted the importance of sustaining reliable service on MRT-3, given its vital role in daily commuting across Metro Manila.
Passengers expressed relief as normal speed resumed, highlighting the significance of efficient rail operations in easing urban congestion and commute times.
Ongoing Commitment to Safety and Efficiency
Authorities continue to monitor the MRT-3 system to prevent future disruptions. They emphasize that safety protocols remain a top priority, alongside efforts to improve train frequency and passenger capacity.
