Murder Case in Barangay Alangilan Sparks Drug Link Probe

Investigating Murder Case in Barangay Alangilan

In Bacolod City, police are probing a murder case in Barangay Alangilan to determine if it connects to illegal drugs. Authorities are exploring whether the killing of a man this week relates to his father’s alleged drug involvement. This murder case in Barangay Alangilan has raised concerns about possible drug-related motives.

Police Major Joeil Reclamado, head of Police Station 5, shared during a media briefing that investigators suspect the father was the intended target. Near the victim’s body, they found a placard accusing the father of being a drug pusher, hinting at why the crime might have happened. “There’s a possibility the perpetrators were after the father, but ended up killing the son,” Reclamado said. However, he added that a drug-related motive remains unconfirmed since the father has not been interviewed yet.

Details of the Victim and Crime Scene

The victim, Christian, lived in Barangay Estefania. His body was found on June 9 in a remote area of Barangay Alangilan. His hands, feet, and mouth were secured with duct tape, and he had two gunshot wounds to the head. Authorities noted no signs of torture, and the autopsy results are still pending. Five sachets of suspected shabu were recovered from his pocket, but police are determining if these were his or planted on him.

Reclamado mentioned Christian had no criminal record except for a barangay complaint about unpaid debt. Investigators identified a companion seen with the victim; Christian was last seen voluntarily entering a gray SUV in Barangay Estefania on June 8, implying he knew the person he left with.

Ongoing Police Investigation and Challenges

Police are reviewing CCTV footage and other evidence to build their case. Fingerprint tests are underway on the duct tape and recovered drugs. Authorities believe three to four suspects may have been involved in the killing.

Police Colonel Joeresty Coronica, Bacolod police director, attended the briefing and stressed that despite lacking concrete evidence, signs point toward a drug-related crime. He cited the victim’s mother’s statement that her husband had alleged ties to illegal drugs. Coronica ordered Police Station 4, which oversees the victim’s residence, to dig deeper into the backgrounds of both the victim and his father. This is to clarify if the motive stemmed from past disputes or unresolved drug dealings.

Coronica also highlighted the difficulty in obtaining sworn statements from witnesses unwilling to cooperate formally. “We are not confident yet in solving the case until we have solid evidence, but we are doing our best to uncover the truth,” he said.
