Muslim Personnel in Defense Honored on Eid al-Adha
Department of National Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. paid tribute to all Muslim personnel serving within the defense department and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) during the Eid al-Adha celebration on June 6. This occasion, recognized nationwide, honors the deep sacrifices and faith exemplified by the Muslim community.
Teodoro extended warm greetings on this blessed day, which commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s unwavering obedience to Allah’s command, even when it meant sacrificing his own son. “Eid al-Adha reminds us of the enduring values of faith, sacrifice, and service to others. It calls us to reflect, give generously, and strengthen our ties with family and community,” he said.
The defense chief emphasized the invaluable contributions of Muslim personnel in the Department of National Defense and the AFP. “Your commitment to our sovereignty, peace, and security is an inspiration to all. May this Eid bring you and your families peace, joy, and countless blessings,” he added.
Peace and Sacrifice Highlighted by Presidential Adviser
Meanwhile, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. described Eid al-Adha as a vital occasion that showcases Prophet Ibrahim’s readiness to sacrifice for a higher purpose. “May the great Prophet serve as an example not only to the members of the Muslim faith but to all Filipinos that we must not be afraid to go beyond our comfort zones, reach out, and help those who are most in need,” he noted.
Galvez pointed out that despite the diversity of faiths among Filipinos, everyone shares the core principles of selflessness, compassion, and empathy. “Let us remember that for every act of kindness, compassion, and generosity that we do, we are building the foundations where genuine and long-lasting peace can firmly take root and flourish,” he added.
Nationwide Holiday Marks Eid al-Adha
In recognition of Eid al-Adha, June 6 was declared a regular nationwide holiday through Proclamation 911 by Malacañang. This move highlights the government’s respect for the Muslim community’s traditions and contributions.
The celebration of Eid al-Adha serves as a reminder to all Filipinos of the values of faith, unity, and sacrifice. It encourages everyone to uphold these principles in fostering peace and progress across the nation.
