Naga City mayoral race winner declared
Former Vice President Leni Robredo has been officially proclaimed the winner of the Naga City mayoral race by the City Board of Canvassers. She secured a commanding victory, earning over 84,000 votes, which accounts for more than 91% of the total votes cast.
Her overwhelming win highlights the continued demand for dedicated and transparent leadership in the city.
Focus on good governance and resilience
Robredo emphasized that this victory shows the importance of a persistent fight for good governance. She noted, “Kagagaling lang namin sa pinakamatinding baha so kailangan namin ayusin yung mga infrastructure na makakatulong sa amin para maging resilient.”
(We just went through the worst flooding so we have to fix infrastructures which would make us resilient.)
She also shared her vision for Naga City: “Gusto namin maging pinakamagaling sa education, health, gusto namin tutukan iyong environment kasi ang lugar namin prone sa calamities…pero at the core of it kasi, good governance e.”
(We also want to be the best in education, health … we want to focus on the environment because we are in a calamity-prone area … but the core of it all is good governance.)
Strengthening mechanisms for good governance
Robredo called for strengthening attainable governance mechanisms, pointing out, “We want to strengthen the mechanisms that are already attainable because we saw an erosion of this [good governance] in the last few years. The lesson really here is the fight for good governance is really continuing. It should not be stagnant.”
She stressed the need to institutionalize good governance so that future leaders can easily continue the work. “Magiging big kami on metrics. Lahat sinusukat. Aside from making our city a happy place for Nagueños, we want to initiate projects replicable all over the country,” she said.

Her plans include focusing on measurable results while making the city a better place to live. This approach aims to create projects that can serve as models nationwide.
