NAIA Drug Interdiction Task Force Makes Arrest
Authorities from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Force apprehended a female passenger on May 28 for allegedly attempting to transport illegal drugs at NAIA Terminal 3. The operation highlights the ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking at the airport.
Details of the Arrest and Seizure
According to sources familiar with the matter, the suspect, identified by the alias “Aida,” was caught around 1 p.m. at the Final Security Screening Checkpoint in the International Departure Area. Officers found illegal substances in her hand-carry baggage just before she was set to board a flight to Bacolod City.
Recovered from her bag was a box containing roughly two kilograms of a white crystalline substance believed to be Methamphetamine Hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is approximately PHP 13,763,200.
Alongside the drugs, authorities also confiscated a mobile phone, a digital weighing scale, travel documents, and several identification cards.
Legal Charges and Next Steps
The suspect remains in custody and faces charges for violating Article II of Republic Act 9165, known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Local experts say this law imposes strict penalties for drug trafficking and possession, aiming to deter illegal drug activities across the country.
This arrest underscores the vigilance of the NAIA Drug Interdiction Task Force in monitoring and preventing drug smuggling attempts at the airport. With continued enforcement, authorities hope to reduce the flow of illegal substances entering or leaving the Philippines.
