Nancy Binay Challenges Sister Abby’s ‘Abby Better’ Slogan Amid Family Rift

Outgoing Senator Nancy Binay criticized the campaign slogan of her sister, Makati Mayor and senatorial candidate Abby Binay, saying none of the Binay siblings have surpassed the public service their parents provided.

She reacted to Abby’s “Abby Better” slogan and claims that she has outdone their father’s legacy. Nancy said, “Hindi namin kayang higitan ang serbisyo ng aming mga magulang. Hindi ako, hindi si Junjun, at kahit si Mayor Abby, wala sa amin ang nakahihigit sa serbisyo ng ating mga magulang.”

Former Vice President Jejomar Binay and former Makati Mayor Elenita Binay are the parents Nancy referred to. She lamented that their father notices Abby’s campaign posters in Makati no longer carry the Binay surname but instead just say “Abby Better.”

“Nakikita ng ating ama ang mga tarpaulin mo na wala nang apelyidong Binay dito sa Makati. Nakakalungkot ito dahil nakikita ko ang lungkot at pagtataka sa kanyang mga mata,” Nancy added.

Binay Name Still Holds Power, Says Nancy

Nancy emphasized that the Binay name remains the symbol of public service in Makati. She said, “Ang apelyido mo ay Binay, lalo na sa labas ng Makati. Walang ‘Serbisyong Better’ dito, Serbisyong Binay lamang.” This statement highlights how the family name still carries weight among voters.

She also clarified that she and Abby are not opponents since Nancy is running for Makati mayor while Abby aims for the Senate. “Hindi tayo magkalaban. Ako lang ang nag-iisang Binay sa balota,” she said.

Family Rift Deepens Over Political Battles

Despite this, Nancy admitted tensions exist, stating Abby regarded their family as her enemy in speeches. She urged Abby not to treat their parents as adversaries, reminding her, “Hindi na bata ang mga magulang natin, kaya huwag sirain ang relasyon ninyo sa kanila.”

Nancy also pointed fingers at Abby’s husband and Nancy’s rival for Makati mayor, Representative Luis Campos Jr. She accused him of causing the family divide, saying, “Sinisira mo ang samahan naming magkakapatid at ang Serbisyong Binay na sinimulan ng aming ama noong 1986.”

Hope for Reconciliation Remains

Despite the bitter exchanges, Nancy remains hopeful for healing. “Hindi kita kaaway. Magkapatid pa rin tayo. Sana kapag hindi ka na bitter, magkaayos tayo,” she said.

She ended with a call to uphold their father’s legacy: “Dapat ang serbisyo natin ay Serbisyong Binay, hindi lang better kundi the best.”
