Napolcom Receives Feelers on Missing Sabungeros Case

MANILA – The National Police Commission (Napolcom) has recently received several feelers regarding the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of a group of sabungeros. These new leads could prove crucial to solving the case.

Napolcom Vice Chairman and Executive Officer Rafael Vicente Calinisan refrained from sharing specific details about the sources of these feelers but assured that the agency is prepared to protect those who come forward and cooperate.

Hope for Key Testimonies in Missing Sabungeros Case

“May mga iba kaming feelers na nakukuha. Sa totoo lang sana mag-materialize ‘yung kanilang paglapit and hopefully ‘yung kanilang paglapit na ito makapag-produce ng affidavit at maging susi rin sa ating imbestigasyon,” Calinisan shared during a chance interview at the University of the Philippines Diliman in Quezon City.

He explained that the individuals who reached out did so in “a creative way,” which left him both surprised and intrigued. “Napapailing na lang din ako sa kaparaanan talaga ng ibang tao. Very creative,” he added.

Calinisan revealed that some of these informants possess deep insights into the case. One person is willing to testify, while several others have provided substantial information.

“Mukhang malalim yung gustong lumapit. ‘Yung maaaring magtestimonya, mukhang isa. ‘Yung nagbibigay ng ibang impormasyon, marami. May sustansya. Malupit yung sustansya niya,” he emphasized.

Whistleblower Statement Anticipated

The Philippine National Police (PNP) and Napolcom are also awaiting a sworn statement from whistleblower Julie “Dondon” Patidongan, known as alias Totoy. Patidongan alleges that about 15 police officers are involved in the disappearance of the sabungeros.

Currently, Patidongan is under the PNP’s protective custody, while the accused officers remain under restrictive custody. However, Napolcom has yet to receive any formal affidavit from the whistleblower.

“Wala pa kaming nakikita. Sadly, medyo sa kuwentuhan, more or less, alam natin ‘yung kuwento pero as to a formal document wala pa akong hawak ni isang pahina ng affidavit ni alias Totoy,” Calinisan said.

Napolcom Vows Thorough Investigation

Napolcom has launched its own inquiry into the incident. The commission has vowed to impose strict administrative sanctions, including possible dismissal from service, on any police officer found guilty. Meanwhile, the Department of Justice is handling the criminal aspects of the case.

These combined efforts highlight the urgency and seriousness with which authorities are addressing the missing sabungeros case. As new information unfolds, Napolcom remains committed to uncovering the truth and delivering justice.
