National Security Adviser Eduardo Año Retains Role Amid Cabinet Review
National Security Adviser Eduardo Año will maintain his role as the country’s top security adviser during the ongoing Cabinet review, President Marcos recently confirmed. This decision comes as part of the administration’s efforts to sharpen its focus following recent political developments.
Palace spokesperson and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro shared that President Marcos chose to retain Año in his position, and the security chief himself agreed to continue serving on the National Security Council (NSC). Castro emphasized that despite facing health challenges, Año remains committed to his duties.
“Ayon po sa ating Pangulo (According to our President), Secretary Año has been managing health issues since the pandemic began. However, he has graciously agreed to remain in the NSC as he feels capable,” Castro explained during a Palace briefing on June 10.
She added, “And the President agrees that he can continue to do the fine job he has been doing. Maaaring manatili si Secretary Año hangga’t kakayanin po ng kanyang kalusugan (Secretary Año can stay as long as his health permits).”
President Marcos’ Cabinet Review Initiative
Following the midterm election results, President Marcos launched a comprehensive Cabinet review in May. The goal is to recalibrate his administration, ensuring it becomes “sharper, faster, and fully focused on the people’s most pressing needs,” according to sources.
As part of this initiative, all Cabinet secretaries were asked to submit courtesy resignations. This move allows the President to assess the current lineup and make necessary adjustments to better serve the public.
Despite the reshuffle, National Security Adviser Eduardo Año’s retention reflects confidence in his leadership amid the evolving political landscape. Local leaders note his continued presence strengthens the government’s security stance during these times.
