Two Suspects Nabbed in Qualified Human Trafficking Cases
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has successfully arrested two individuals in connection with qualified human trafficking. The operations took place simultaneously in Laoag City and Quezon City, officials reported on Thursday.
Authorities identified the suspects as Arnel Placido and Ma. Carnnete Santy Manzano. Both were apprehended following a warrant of arrest issued by the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 4 in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, dated March 24.
Coordinated Operations Lead to Arrests
According to sources, the NBI executed the arrest warrant through coordinated raids on August 12. Placido was detained in Quezon City, while Manzano was taken into custody in Laoag City on the same day.
“They will remain under the custody of the Bureau until the issuing court orders their commitment to a proper detention facility,” community members said, quoting an NBI statement.
NBI’s Ongoing Commitment to Justice
Officials emphasized the agency’s dedication to pursuing individuals wanted for crimes under the law. NBI director Jaime Santiago reaffirmed the commitment to arrest and bring criminals to justice promptly.
These arrests mark another step in the fight against human trafficking, a crime that continues to threaten vulnerable populations nationwide.
Legal Proceedings and Next Steps
The suspects will face charges under qualified human trafficking laws as judicial processes continue. The NBI will hold them until the court issues further directives regarding their detention.
Local leaders noted the importance of vigilance and cooperation among law enforcement agencies to dismantle trafficking networks effectively.
