NBI Seizes Suspected Fake Products of Popular Denim Brand
Authorities recently confiscated suspected counterfeit items of a well-known denim brand valued at approximately P47 million. The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) carried out the operation in several shops located in Pasay City, recovering a significant number of fake products.
According to sources familiar with the matter, the NBI’s Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD) seized a total of 15,814 counterfeit pieces bearing the trademarks of Levi Strauss & Co. Alongside these items, the authorities also confiscated business documents, receipts, parcel tags from popular online marketplaces Lazada and Shopee, and machines used in producing the fake goods. The estimated worth of all seized items is around P47,442,000.
Details of the Operation and Legal Grounds
The raid was conducted inside shops located in the YSL Building in Pasay City. Investigators executed three search warrants targeting trademark infringement, violating Section 155 in relation to Section 170 of Republic Act 8293, also known as the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
This crackdown followed a complaint filed by a law firm representing the denim brand. The NBI emphasized the importance of protecting intellectual property rights and preventing the spread of counterfeit merchandise in the market.
Ongoing Efforts Against Counterfeit Goods
The director of the bureau assured the public that the NBI remains committed to its campaign to stop counterfeit products from flooding the market. This operation is part of the agency’s broader efforts to uphold the rights of legitimate businesses and safeguard consumers.
Reports indicate that the NBI will continue coordinating with various stakeholders to intensify the fight against trademark infringement and counterfeit goods.
