NCR Minimum Wage Hike Brings Hope to Workers
MANILA, Philippines – The upcoming P50 wage increase for minimum wage earners in the National Capital Region has been warmly welcomed by a prominent labor group. This adjustment will take effect on Friday, July 18, providing a much-needed boost to workers’ daily income.
The Federation of Free Workers (FFW) expressed support for the wage revision, which was approved by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB)-NCR through Wage Order No. 26, released on June 30. The group highlighted the tangible impact, explaining that “P50 x 26 day = P1,300.00 is expected to be added to a worker’s income effective July 18, 2025.”
Significant Yet Insufficient Wage Increase
While the increase from PHP645 to PHP695 daily is the largest ever granted by the NCR wage board, the FFW acknowledged that it still falls short of fully meeting workers’ and their families’ needs. “Though the amount is admittedly insufficient to meet the needs of workers and their families, it is still a step in the right direction—and thus, we welcome it,” local leaders noted.
Approximately 1.2 million minimum wage earners across Metro Manila will benefit from this salary adjustment, marking a vital step towards improving their livelihood amid rising living costs.
Ongoing Advocacy for Living Wage and Rights
Despite the positive development, the labor group emphasized their continuing efforts to push for a living wage through legislation in Congress. They also champion the importance of Collective Bargaining Agreements to secure better working conditions and compensation for Filipino workers.
As workers in the NCR prepare to receive their increased daily pay, the wage hike symbolizes progress but also underscores the need for sustained advocacy to raise the standard of living for all minimum wage earners nationwide.
