NCRPO Cracks Down on Illegal Gambling
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has arrested 2,573 individuals involved in illegal gambling activities over the past two months. Authorities also confiscated bets totaling P568,992 during this crackdown. These efforts targeted illegal gambling across the region’s five police districts.
From June 2 to July 23, the NCRPO conducted 1,119 operations against illegal gambling, covering the Manila Police District, Quezon City Police District, Northern Police District, Eastern Police District, and Southern Police District. The police emphasized that these arrests and seizures demonstrate their commitment to curbing unlawful gambling in the National Capital Region.
Illegal Numbers Games Among Arrests
Out of the total arrests, 270 involved individuals allegedly linked to illegal numbers games. The NCRPO also seized P97,160 worth of bets related to these activities. These numbers games violate Presidential Decree 1602, which imposes stricter penalties on unauthorized gambling operations.
The decree specifically prohibits unauthorized cockfighting, jueteng, jai alai, horse racing, bookie operations, game fixing, numbers, bingo, and other lottery forms. The police continue to enforce these laws vigorously to protect communities from the negative impacts of illegal gambling.
Call to Public: Report Illegal Gambling
Authorities encourage citizens to report any illegal gambling activities they encounter. The NCRPO has made its 911 emergency hotline available for this purpose. Community cooperation remains vital in the ongoing fight against unlawful betting and gaming operations.
