Three Arrested for Stealing Cables from NCAP Cameras
MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) arrested three suspects on Friday for allegedly stealing cables from CCTV cameras installed under the No-Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP). The incident highlights ongoing issues with the security of traffic monitoring equipment.
The suspects, a 28-year-old from Makati and two 20-year-olds from Mandaluyong, were caught in the act by police officers. The arrest occurred at around 11 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, near the Guadalupe footbridge in Makati City.
Details of the Arrest and Stolen Property
Authorities reported that police personnel from the Guadalupe station’s intelligence unit spotted a group of men suspiciously cutting electrical wires attached to the NCAP cameras. They immediately intervened and apprehended the suspects on the scene.
Recovered from the suspects were several cutting tools and pieces of cut wiring. The NCRPO estimated the total value of the stolen cables at approximately P104,000. Besides the Guadalupe area, wires from cameras near the Estrella Bridge were also reportedly stolen.
Following their arrest, the suspects were brought to Makati Police Substation 7 for further investigation. They are now facing theft charges and will undergo inquest proceedings at the Makati City Prosecutor’s Office.
Background on Cable Thefts from NCAP Cameras
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) confirmed that cables were stolen from NCAP cameras installed on an overpass in Guadalupe, Makati City, earlier in the week on June 24. CCTV footage from a nearby bus stop showed the theft occurred as early as June 20.
Local officials and authorities continue to monitor and secure NCAP equipment to prevent future incidents. The theft of cables not only disrupts traffic law enforcement but also compromises public safety.
