NCRPO Strengthens Legal Assistance for Policemen Facing Charges
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has recently signed a significant agreement with the Metro Manila chapter of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) to maximize legal assistance for policemen facing service-related charges. This partnership aims to provide comprehensive legal support, including counseling and education, to uniformed personnel confronting legal challenges in the line of duty.
NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin emphasized that this collaboration aligns with the Chief PNP’s program to enhance officers’ legal expertise. “This initiative aligns with the Chief PNP’s (Gen. Nicolas Torre III) program to enhance officers’ legal expertise through re-education, equipping them with up-to-date knowledge of existing laws to ensure fair and effective law enforcement,” Aberin said during the signing ceremony held on June 4 at the NCRPO Multi-Purpose Hinirang Hall, Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig.
Empowering Policemen Facing Charges Through Legal Education
Beyond legal representation, the agreement also includes legal counseling and education aimed at strengthening the understanding of laws among police officers. Aberin highlighted that collaboration with legal experts will boost officers’ ability to comprehend and apply the law accurately, fostering professionalism and reinforcing public trust.
He added, “Collaboration with legal experts will further enhance officers’ comprehension and application of the law, foster professionalism, and reinforce public trust.”
Institutional Support to Uphold Ethical Standards
Aberin stressed the importance of institutional backing to assist police officers as they navigate legal hurdles, all while maintaining the highest ethical standards. This support system is designed to ensure that officers receive the necessary assistance without compromising integrity.
Additionally, a high-ranking official from the National Police Commission (Napolcom) expressed strong support for the initiative. Napolcom vice chairperson and executive officer Rafael Vicente R. Calinisan noted that this legal assistance program significantly contributes to community safety. “Through teamwork, we reinforce the foundations of justice and empower institutions to uphold fairness, integrity, and transparency,” Calinisan said.
This collaboration between NCRPO and the IBP marks a proactive step towards protecting those who serve and ensuring justice is fairly administered.
